Davao del Sur, Declared Under State of Calamity

Davao del Sur – The entire province of Davao del Sur was declared in a State of Calamity due to the ongoing drought. The resolution declaring the State of Calamity, sponsored by Board Member Atty. Merlin Bello, was approved during a Special Session last March 12, 2019 at the Provincial Council through unanimous votes.

According to the law, if two or more municipalities have declared under the State of Calamity, the entire province can declare as well.

As stated in the report of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (PDRRMO) Christopher Tan, the municipalities of Bansalan and Matanao had already declared under state of calamity. There are also partially damaged crops in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur, enough reason to declare this for the entire province.

Meanwhile, during the said session, the council also approved a resolution authorizing Governor Douglas Cagas to use the 5% Quick Response Trust fund of CY 2017 and 2018 to fund the programs and projects that can help the farmers, which are the most affected by the ongoing drought.(PIO|Dianne Depalubos)
