Drinking Water Supply Regulation Ordinance, Signed

Davao del Sur – Gov. Douglas Cagas signed Ordinance No. 18-143 entitled “Drinking Water Supply Regulation in the Province of Davao del Sur” last January 30, 2019.

The said ordinance aims to protect the consumers of drinking water in the province in order to prevent various diseases brought about by ingestion of unsafe drinking water. In accordance with this, the said ordinance mandated the owners and operators of business establishments who sells and distributes drinking water, to undergo testing for their products. They may submit water samples to the Provincial Water Laboratory located in Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital for testing.

The ordinance also mandated the Local Government Units (LGUs) to conduct a survey in their areas to know the count of refilling stations, barangay waterworks, and water districts, both private and public.
Corresponding penalties wait to whoever fails to obey the ordinance, which will take effect immediately after its publication.

It can be recalled that this measure was approved by the 15th Provincial Legislative Council last December 13, 2018, which was authored by Board Member Atty. Willie Villegas. (PIO|Dianne Depalubos)
