Provincial Government Celebrates Men’s Day

As provided in the Gender and Development Code of the Province of Davao del Sur, the province celebrates Men’s Day every 19th day of November. This year, Men’s Day was celebrated on November 17, 2023, since November 19 fell on a Sunday, at Megas World Hotel, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The celebration was done through a Symposium on the Prevention and Management of Men’s Lifestyle Diseases and Salient Features of the Anti-VAWC Law, led by the Provincial Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS). Male employees of the Provincial Government of Davao del Sur aged 35 years old and above participated in the activity. SP Member Sheila B. Cagas, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Chair of the Committee on Women, Children and Family Affairs opened the activity.

On men’s lifestyle diseases, Mr. Jaypee C. Malibiran, RN, medicine nurse at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital, impressively discussed the different lifestyle diseases that men encounter as they age. These includes hypertension, diabetes, liver diseases and others. He also included sexually transmitted diseases, HIV and AIDS since based on statistics these diseases are higher among men than women.

Atty. Jeff Kevin D. Antala, Attorney V at the Provincial Legal Office, discussed informatively the salient features of RA 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Law. Usually, discussion on VAWC is only attended by women. This is the first time that men were the audience in the VAWC discussion.

Interestingly, the open forum was very vibrant because almost all participants enthusiastically asked questions on both topics. The activity ended with all the attendees gained significant and useful information.
