Turnover Ceremonies and Soft Opening of the Davao del Sur Olympic Swimming Pool

Another landmark in the province of Davao del Sur is now catching the attention of local, national, and perhaps, foreign tourists, the 1,250 square-meter Olympic-size Swimming Pool inside the Davao del Sur Sports Complex. Just recently, the turnover ceremonies and soft opening of the newly-renovated and upgraded sports facility took place.

According to DPWH District Engr. Nicomedes Parilla, this renovation project would not be made possible without the initiative and efforts of Congw. Mercedes “Didi” Cagas, who persistently looked for budget to fund the project. “The first phase of the project amounted to โ‚ฑ20 million while the second and final phase costed โ‚ฑ25 million,” the official emphasized. Engr. Parilla also quoted the late Gov. Douglas Cagas in one of their conversations before as saying, “It is my wish that someday, one of the swimmers in this swimming pool will compete in the Olympics.”

Gov. Marc Cagas, who spearheaded the event alongside his wife, Mrs. Yvonne Cagas, emotionally gave honor to the two important people behind the realization of this project, his mom and dad. He also divulged how this project was deliberately devastated by culprits during the 2013-2016 provincial administration.

Prominent personalities such as the Regional Director of the Department of Tourism XI Dir. Tanya Rabat Tan, Philippine Sports Commission Regional Director for Mindanao Dir. Eduardo Fernandez, heads of national government agencies, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, municipal mayors, and department heads of the provincial capitol, graced the historical event.ย
