The municipality of Magsaysay is the daughter municipality of Bansalan. Magsaysay has 22 barangays. It is bounded on the north by North Cotabato, on the east by Matanao and North Cotabato, on the south by Hagonoy and on the west by Bansalan. The town is often referred to as Kialeg, a name that was derived from a native chieftain who was known for his bravery and was slained by another chieftain named Guinang in a duel. Dr. Pedro Tecala was the appointed mayor in 1965. Arceli Villafuerte Malag was the first elected mayor during the 1967 elections.
