In partnership with Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) of each locality, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) organized a short orientation and workshop on community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM) last 7th day of September up to 5th day of October 2021 for the 232 barangays in the province. The event was under the framework of the project “Improving the resilience of vulnerable communities to climate change related impacts in Philippines,”.
The CBDRRM is a process in which at-risk communities are actively engaged in the identification, analysis, treatment, monitoring, and evaluation of disaster risks in order to reduce their vulnerabilities, and enhance their capacities. Through CBDRRM, ordinary community members are able to collectively reduce and manage disaster risks on their own even without depending on external help. As differentiated from other DRRM approaches, CBDRRM focuses on the operationalization of DRRM at the grassroots level.
Representatives from the BDRRMC volunteers and the provincial unit leader were in attendance, as well as officials from the Women’s Union, Person with Disabilities (PWDs) and the elected officials of each barangay.
The training courses contributes to the efforts of the Provincial Government of Davao del Sur led by our very own Honorable Governor Marc Douglas IV C. Cagas and PDRRM Officer Christopher T. Tan to enhance public awareness and community resilience under the NDRRMC Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation thematic area.
In order to improve public understanding of how to adapt to climate change and respond to natural disasters more proactively.
