Governor Douglas Cagas allowed the council of Barangay Asinan in Matanao, led by Barangay Captain Wilfredo Butal, to temporarily reside at the relocation site purchased by the Provincial Government for them.
ย
The council requested temporary residency at the relocation site from Governor Cagas this morning, as the National Housing Authority (NHA) has yet to begin construction on their permanent housing.
ย
Captain Butal also expressed gratitude to the Talictic family, the landowners where they lived, for their kindness and generosity in allowing them to stay temporarily.
ย
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOLCS) and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) had declared a no-build zone in most parts of Barangay Asinan, which had been severely affected by the previous four strong earthquakes, prompting Governor Cagas of the Davao Provincial Government del Sur to purchase 4.3 hectares of land for 2 million pesos to serve as a relocation site for nearly 200 families in the barangay, as well as neighboring barangays that have been severely affected by the earthquake.
ย
The people are just waiting for the NHA to construct permanent homes in the mentioned area, as the Provincial Government and the NHA had agreed to house earthquake victims through a memorandum of agreement.
