"Municipality of Malalag declares under State of Calamity

The municipality of Malalag in Davao del Sur has declared a state of calamity today, November 17, 2022, due to the flash floods and landslides that affected all barangays in the said locality. Severely affected were Barangay Poblacion and nearby areas, where floodings can be seen in any direction. Rivers around the Poblacion area overflowed, which resulted in the flooding of the public market and terminal.

Two casualties have been reported, one in Barangay Ibu and another in Barangay Pitu. Rescue and force evacuation has been conducted by the authorities. While classes in all levels were also suspended.

Davao del Sur Gov. Yvonne Roรฑa Cagas, along with Special Assistant to the Provincial Governor (SAPG) Marc Cagas, immediately visited the affected areas to personally assess the situation and the damages caused by the calamity. Vice Gov. Riafe Cagas-Fernandez and Cong. John Tracy Cagas also visited the affected areas.

The heavy rains which lasted for hours caused the floodings in the low-lying areas not only in Malalag, but also in the municipalities of Sulop and some parts of Kiblawan. It also resulted in the landslides in Sitio Baluyan, Barangay Bolton, and in Barangay Tagansule, also in the municipality of Malalag.
